Kemp David- Funeral Director

[Directors Index]

Jimmy BordelonKemp is a native of New Iberia, Louisiana and a third generation funeral director and embalmer. Before attending Mortuary school, Kemp took advantage of Louisiana’s unique law allowing future Mortuary students the ability to serve half the internship by working at David Funeral Home in New Iberia. Kemp attended The Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas where he earned his Associative Degree in Mortuary Science. While attending school in Houston, he was afforded the honor of working for Geo. H. Lewis and Sons Funeral Directors where he was given the opportunity to assist on such funerals as the famous Paul “Red” Adair, the oil-well firefighter. Working in Houston, Kemp gained much experience in various cultures and religious rites such as Reform Jewish, Greek Orthodox, as well as Roman Catholic, which also happens to be his choice of faith. Also, while working for Geo. H., Kemp gained much insight into offering unique options for various Funeral Services and Memorial Services for cremations making them more meaningful to those families he served.

While at school, Kemp, along with his classmates and instructors, touched the hearts of Houstonians by caring for those whose families had not the resources to provide decent burials for their lost loved ones. By reaching out to those who had little, this burned a caring desire to provide the softest touch to all those he comes into contact with.

Before attending Commonwealth, Kemp served for eight years in the 256th Louisiana Army National Guard located in Lafayette from July 1995 till July 2003 proudly, taking advantage of its tuition program and attending ULL in pursuit of a degree in Marketing. There, he learned to work as a team, taking on various responsibilities and volunteering whenever help was needed, such as when Hurricane George narrowly missed New Orleans in the late 1990’s, being positioned at Jackson Barracks during the evacuation. Just recently Kemp in April of 2008 proudly re-enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard for another 6 years to continue his service to both his state and country.

Kemp is a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette and has two wonderful children, Hannah Elizabeth and Ethan Jude who both attend St. Edwards Catholic School in New Iberia.
