Agnes D. Hargrave
November 14, 1933 - February 25, 2022
Private Funeral services were held on Monday February 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Agnes Duhon Hargrave, 88, who passed away Friday morning, February 25, 2022 at her residence in Lafayette. Entombment followed in Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Reverend Howard Blessing conducted the funeral services. A native of Kaplan and long-time resident of Lafayette, Agnes Duhon Hargrave passed away peacefully on February 25, 2022, after an extended illness. Agnes was in her home with her beloved husband Ovey at her side. She was 88 years old. Agnes spent a lifetime caring for and nurturing others. An all-encompassing love for her husband and family remained the core of who she was until the end. She valued being a wife, mother, and grandmother above all. An exceptional cook, Agnes enjoyed preparing meals for her family and always put a little love into each dish. Her grandchildren unanimously agree that everything tasted better at “Mimi’s” house. She also enjoyed searching for and clipping new baking recipes, though no recipe could match her lemon cookies. Agnes shared her love of education and childhood development with the community by leading the Mother’s Day Out program at Holy Cross Catholic Church in the 1980s and 1990s. Through the program, many children experienced the same patient, nurturing, and authentic love from “Miss Agnes” that she shared with her own family. A devout Catholic, Agnes prayed the rosary and said novenas daily, especially to St. Therese. She always lit up when she received a flower, a sign that St. Therese had heard her prayers. When she wasn’t caring for her family, Agnes liked to read, do word search puzzles, and play Pokeno with her friends. She loved country music and dancing. Agnes is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ovey Hargrave Jr., and their children Karen Hargrave Bullinger (Matt), Lisa Hargrave Havard (Richard), Neal Hargrave (MeMe), and Steven Hargrave (Robyn); their nine grandchildren Aimee Bullinger Abshire (Alex), Laura Bullinger Runkel (Conor), Jacob Havard (Rachael), Caitlin Havard Hernandez (Jason), Sarah Hargrave Malagarie (Nick), Kevin Hargrave (Jolie), and Connor, Brennan, and Caroline Hargrave; their 11 great-grandchildren Sophia and Evelyn Abshire, Charlotte, Owen, and Henry Runkel, Liam and Mila Havard, Stella, Amelia, and Oliver Malagarie, and Ellie Hargrave. She is also survived by her sister, Verna (Jim) Leger of Enon, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Semar and Amay Duhon; her sister, Lillian Ewing; and her brother, Chester Duhon. Serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Havard, Kevin Hargrave, Connor Hargrave, Brennan Hargrave, Nick Malagarie, and Jason Hernandez. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Acadiana and LeKesia Gutter for the remarkable care they gave Agnes in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Agnes’ honor to Holy Cross Little Shepherds Early Learning Center. Supporting the child development program she began and the church she loved would mean a great deal to her.
