Alice Theresa Cook

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 10:00 AM in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Alice “Theresa” Nelson Cook, age 90, who passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Father Gregory Chauvin, Pastor of St. Jules Catholic Church, will serve as Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her daughters, Dr. Sandra Cook Friedberg and her husband, Dr. Ted Friedberg of Lafayette, Katherine Cook Ray and her husband, James Ivy “Lurch” Ray of Lafayette, Patricia Cook of Mountain City, TN, Kimberly Cook of Lafayette, and Aimee Cook Racca and her husband, Shelby Racca, Jr. of Richmond, TX; her grandchildren Jimmy Dupuis, Jr. (Susan), Patrick Dupuis, Sr., Michael Dupuis (Jamie), John Dur, Jr., Jessica Dur Taylor, Andrew Hebert, Alicia Cook Clifton (Brent), Derrell Cook, III (Caitlin), Shelby Racca, III, and Brandon Racca; her great grandchildren, Patrick Dupuis, Jr., Simone Dupuis, Lyric Dupuis, Mallory Taylor, Dahlia Taylor, Vivian Wycoff, Tyler Wycoff, Declan Clifton, Emma Cook, and Lydia Cook. She was preceded in death by her son Derrell Cook, Jr.; her parents Walter and Certie Nelson; and the father of her children D. A. Cook, Sr. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dupuis, Jr., Patrick Dupuis, Sr., Michael Dupuis, Patrick Dupuis, Jr., John Dur, Jr., Andrew Hebert, Derrell Cook, III, Shelby Racca, III, and Brandon Racca. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Monday, April 18, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday morning from 8:00 AM until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed on Monday evening at 7:00 PM in the funeral home led by the Carmelite Seculars and the Theresians. Memorial contributions may be made in Theresa Cook’s name to The Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501 and Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Lafayette, LA 70503.
