A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette for André Simon DuBois, Jr., 88, who died on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Monsignor Charles J. Dubois will conduct the funeral services. Concelebrant will be Reverend Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette. The family requests that visitation be observed at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette on Friday, October 29, 2021, from 10:00 am until time of services. A Eulogy will be said prior to Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. André is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Eldine “Deanie” Sonnier DuBois; his five children, Michelle DuBois Picard and her husband Rusty, Jacquelyn “Jackie” DuBois Galvez, Claire DuBois Massingill and her husband Mike of Montgomery, TX, André Simon DuBois, III and his wife Annie, and Monique DuBois; nine grandchildren, Lesley Picard Roger and her husband Matt, Jean-Paul DuBois Picard and his wife Kali, Amanda Massingill Thayer and her husband Ansel of Houston, TX, Ellen C. Butler, André Simon DuBois, IV and his wife Dani, Jacques P. DuBois, Luke Thomas Butler Jr., Emile C. DuBois, and Megan L. Butler; 2 great-grandchildren, Jean-Luc DuBois Picard and Flynn Michael Roger; one great-granddaughter Picard on the way; brother, Reverend Monsignor Charles J. Dubois of Lake Charles; sister-in-law, Dolores Bolner DuBois of Erath; and he was close to his loving nieces and nephew and their families from Erath. He was preceded in death by parents, André Simon DuBois Sr. and Regina Brown DuBois; brother, Richard C. DuBois Sr.; son in law, Marshal Galvez; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alfred and Louise Chaisson Sonnier. André grew up in Erath, Louisiana. He graduated from Erath High School in 1950 and was a proud member of the very first Erath High School football team. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI), currently University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in 1954, where he served as President of Theta Kappa Phi Fraternity (PKT). He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where he served on various church committees and served as Eucharistic Minister. He was active with SLYSI recreation at Neyland Park, where his children played baseball and softball. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren’s many school and sporting events, and personal accomplishments. He was an avid reader and fluent in Cajun French. Some of his most anticipated activities were “Erath Christmas” celebrations with his brother Richard’s family and Florida vacations. He also looked forward to his “sewing club” luncheons with his EHS classmates and so thankful to classmate, Chris Suire, for his friendship through the years. He cherished his visits with his children and grandchildren gathered to share the latest events in their lives. In return, he would entertain us with his sense of humor and quick wit that was still prevalent until his very last day. You could find he and Deanie sitting out on their back deck, around sunset, sipping on glasses of red wine. Honorary Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, grandsons, Richard C. DuBois Jr., Chris Suire, and Bradley Quoyeser. Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. DuBois' name to the charity of your choice. Our family would like to thank Dr. Gene Thomas Callais, Jr. and his staff, Dr. Michael Z. Dibbs and his staff, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center 3rd floor nurses and staff, and to the 3rd floor ICU nurses and staff for the wonderful care and consideration given to our father and his family. Our family would also like to thank the many friends and family who called to inquire about our father and for the prayers offered for his recovery. His children are so grateful to their generous grandparents, Simon and Regina DuBois, who prayed and cared for our father as a young boy suffering with an extremely critical kidney ailment. They made many trips to New Orleans for medical treatments in the 1940’s at Hôtel-Dieu run by The Daughters of Charity. Our grandparents, devout Catholics, prayed continuously for his healing and considered his recovery a miracle. André decided long ago that he wanted to donate his body to science. He believed medical students would be impressed with the result of many lifesaving surgeries and procedures that prolonged his life for many years.
