Carita Lantier Broussard

August 18, 1928 - April 30, 2022

A private graveside service was held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens for Carita Lantier Broussard, 93, who entered eternal rest on April 30, 2022 at Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Reverend Ken Domingue, Pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, conducted the funeral services. Survivors include her children, Michael Broussard, Lisa Broussard Bucher and husband, Rick; five grandchildren, Krista Trahan, Brian Broussard, Christopher Sonnier, Stacey Bucher, and Zachary Bucher; ten great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Woodly Broussard; her daughter, Susan Broussard Pool; her father, Raoul Lantier; her Mother, Elida Guidry Lantier; her sister Mascle Short Belaire; and two brothers Curtis and Stafford Lantier. Born in Scott, LA, but a resident of Lafayette, LA for most of her life, Carita was a strong believer in education. After graduating in 1945 from Scott High School she received her BA in Education from the Southwestern Louisiana Institute (UL Lafayette) in 1949. She continued to pursue her education while teaching, specializing in Special Education. She also taught adult education classes in the evenings and summers. She finished her career as a Special Education Supervisor for Lafayette Parish Schools. Carita was a lifelong founding member of the Lafayette Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa an International Honorary Organization for Women Educators. After retiring in 1984, she volunteered for several years at the University Medical Center. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed reading on her Kindle. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and Canada. Carita’s kindness, gentleness and love for the Lord were a source of strength and security to her family. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. We are thankful for the many memories she’s left for us to cherish. Pallbearers were Michael Broussard, Rick Bucher, Zachary Bucher, and Karlen Short.
