He was born and raised in Youngsville, LA and upon graduating from high school he joined the United States Navy. During his Navy service, he served on the USS Harry Hubbard. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Lafayette and joined the United States Postal Service. During his distinguished 37 year career with the postal service he began as a letter carrier and rose to the rank of Postmaster in Iota, Erath, Kaplan and ultimately would retire as Postmaster in Abbeville. After retiring from the postal service he continued to stay active in the National Association of Postal Supervisors (NAPS). He was a longtime member of the Lafayette Jaycee's. Darrell was a lover of nature and he enjoyed boating, fishing and gardening. He was a longtime member of Red Lerille's Health Club and enjoyed working out and visiting with friends solving many of the world's problems. He had a true passion for baseball, coaching little league baseball for many years and playing in adult baseball leagues. He loved spending time with family and particularly enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's activities and events. On a typical weekend at the Vincent residence, you would find a table filled with boiled crabs, fried speckled trout, or perhaps a large pot of crawfish etouffee cooked to perfection as Beverly and Darrell made a warm and inviting home for family and friends. Survivors include his daughters Shelley Sullivan, Carla Levers, Nikki Tonore and her husband Greg, Sr.; his grandchildren, Caitland Sullivan Feucht (Jayke), Brandon Levers (Shanna), Jordan Levers (Asche), Gregory Tonore, Jr. (Mallory) and Michael Tonore; his great-grandchild, Claire Feucht; his brothers, Ronald Vincent (Margaret), Jimmy Vincent (Dot); his sister, Jeanette Luque (John), and his sister-in-law, Helen Vincent.
