Iona R. Smith

April 29, 1930 - March 28, 2022

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 2:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Iona R. Smith, 91, who peacefully passed away at her residence in Lafayette on Monday evening, March 28, 2022. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Deacon Cody Miller will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her two daughters, Sheila Forgason and Tanya Boudreaux and husband Michael; one son, Alton “Al” Smith and wife Debbie; three grandchildren, Chad Smith, Tiffany LaSalle and Chelsea Forgason; five great grandchildren, Jordan LaSalle and wife Allison, Gabriel Smith and companion Chelsea Day, Dudley Smith, Kassadi Lasseigne and Averi Lasseigne; one great great grandchild, Amelia Smith; two sisters, Terry Leblanc and Anna Beauxis. Iona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dudley Smith; daughter, Janet Smith; parents, John and Zoe Langlinais Richard; and ten siblings. Mrs. Iona enjoyed playing solitaire and bourre’, watching Soap Operas, word search books and putting puzzles together. She cherished moments spent with her family baking for them, especially her household specialty fig tarts. Pallbearers will be Michael Boudreaux, Samuel Baker, Dudley Smith, Gabriel Smith, Neal Arabie and Jordan LaSalle. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chad Smith, Alton Smith and Dale LaSalle. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday at 1:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Iona’s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.
