JoAnn Simon Grossie Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 11:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for JoAnn Simon Grossie, 87, who passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at The Carpenter House - St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette, with her family by her side. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed Monday evening at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Reverend Howard Blessing will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Heather Jaccuzzo and Kali Monteleon. Survivors include her children, Deborah Grossie Monteleon (Jim), Patrick Grossie (Vicki), Steven Grossie (Cathy), Robert Grossie, and Christopher Grossie (Cindi); her 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Joseph Grossie; her son, Jeffrey Earl Grossie; her parents, Etienne and May Savoy Simon; two brothers, Ray Simon and Earl "Sonny" Simon. JoAnn was born October 10, 1934, in Lafayette, Louisiana. She attended Mount Carmel High in Lafayette, leaving in her senior year to marry the love of her life, Walter Grossie, in Fort Dodge, Kansas where he was stationed in the U.S. Army. After military duty, Walter and JoAnn moved back to Lafayette and began what would eventually become a family of eight. The young family lived for a while in Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans. Lafayette would always be home. One of the happiest moments of her life was in 1965 when she learned that Walter's managerial job would bring the family back home to countless friends and extended family in Lafayette. She would soon balance caring for a young family and going to night school to complete her education in 1968. She was presented with her high school diploma with the first graduating class of Cathedral-Carmel High. She retired from the Lafayette Parish school system as a Special Education Assistant and cheerleader sponsor at Carencro High School. JoAnn was known for her boundless energy and, as anyone who ever played board and card games against her can tell you, her feisty demeanor. She loved holiday get-togethers, visiting with her circle of friends and relatives, vacations in Holly Beach, everything about Mardi Gras, and rewarding her loved ones with her amazing cooking skills. She will be sadly missed. Pallbearers will be Lonnie White, Blake Grossie, Scott Grossie, Justin Monteleon, Daniel Grossie, and Tony Reeves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Grossie, Carey Jaccuzzo, Josh Longan, Jamie Grossie, Amanda Reeves, Brinkley Longan, Samantha Monteleon and Lauren Grossie. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Grossie family to Carpenter House - St. Joseph's Hospice, especially Kelli Saloom, for their care and compassion given to JoAnn in her time of need.
