Heaven gained an angel today in the passing of a woman amongst women, matriarch, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and community leader Mrs. Josefina “Fina” Knezek. Fina, as she was affectionately known, was 70 years old when she entered her heavenly home on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her loving family. She passed away after a vigilant battle with Burkitt’s leukemia and Central Nervous System lymphoma – leukemia. The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille's Southside location, 600 E. Farrel Road, Lafayette, Louisiana 70508, on Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. A brief Catholic Celebration of Life service will then be held for Fina at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2022 in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel. Reverend Howard Blessing will conduct the funeral services. On Tuesday January 18, 2022, Fina will be escorted by a procession of local and regional law enforcement agencies to honor her life as a community leader and longtime supportive spouse of retired Lafayette City Police Sergeant Dale Knezek from Martin & Castille's Southern location, 600 E. Farrel Road to her inurnment at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery. For those wishing to participate in the funeral procession, arrive by 1:15 p.m. for a prompt departure at 1:40 p.m. from Martin & Castille’s Southside location, or proceed to directly to Calvary Cemetery for the inurnment to initiate promptly at 2:00 p.m. Survivors include her beloved husband of 51 years, retired Lafayette Police Sergeant Elvin "Dale" Knezek; her son, former Lafayette Parish School Board member, Lafayette Parish Sheriff Reserve Deputy and Founder & Board Director of Oceanetics, Inc., Erick Knezek, Ph.D., PE, and his beloved wife who is owner of Knezek Law, Mrs. Elena Arcos Knezek, J.D.; daughter, Mrs. Josette Broussard and her husband Mr. Glen Douglas Broussard; and daughter Alexis Knezek and her loving partner Matthew Pruskowski. Her surviving grandchildren, of who Fina was immeasurably proud, are Amber Knezek, PFC Hunter Knezek, U.S. Army, Isabella Maria Pecoraro, Brittney Hebert, Bethany Hebert, Tyler Broussard, and Reese Broussard. Her family pets also provided her immense love and protection including her dog Camellia, and grand dogs Lela and Foster Knezek, Nixie Pruskowski, and Nola and Lily Broussard. Fina’s love was so great that she also enveloped several additional “children” and their families whom she loved as her own including Mr. Geno Felix, Mrs. Cindy McCrory, Mr. Jarett Lusk, Mr. Chad Guidry, Mr. David Roy, and Mrs. Sabyl Farmer. Her surviving siblings are Margarita Shields and Rosa Newcomb. Fina was preceded in death by her parents, Alejandro Mendoza Falliner and Elena Reza Gamboa Falliner; sister Maria Elena Solano, and brother Alejandro Falliner, Jr. Her father, Alejandro Falliner, was the owner of Alex’s Paint & Body Shop at 1203 Cameron St. for several decades and took immense pride in assisting in the repair of local police units. Born from poor Mexican immigrant parents, Fina was a fierce and loyal American patriot who incorporated the American dream that ultimately afforded her family a better life. In only one generation, Fina constructed a highly successful business and achieved financial independence. While developing a successful business, Fina reared a Naval Academy graduate and Navy Officer veteran, as well as an Army veteran. She inspired her children to achieve tremendous success in business, industry, community service, law enforcement, and local politics. Her grandchildren continue that legacy as they include an Army veteran and pilot, two teachers, and future businesspeople and community leaders. Fina was also a distinguished community leader and served in numerous community organizations including the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Membership Committee, Leadership Lafayette (Class IV, Past Board of Trustees Director, and Alumni Board of Directors), Acadian Home Builders Association (Past Board Membership and Past Auxiliary President), Acadian Mortgage Bankers (Past President), Lafayette Board of Realtors (Past Member of Lafayette, Vermilion and New Iberia Board of Realtors), Community Reinvestment Act of Lafayette (Past Treasurer) and, Acadiana Security Association (Past Vice President). Fina was also a devoted community leader in Acadiana through her engagement in multiple boards and as a volunteer.
