Judith "Judy" Fenner Gentry

Dr. Judith “Judy” Fenner Gentry, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of History, University of Louisiana, died February 4, 2021 at her home in Lafayette. Born May 28, 1942 in Baltimore County, MD, she was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Robert Fenner and Mildred Ann Fenner, and her brother, Robert Charles Fenner. Judith had a long and distinguished career at the University. A popular professor, she received the University of Southwestern Louisiana Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award in 1994. She was a long-time advocate for women at the local, state and national levels through her work in American Association of University Professors. She served in executive positions for several important professional organizations, including the Louisiana Historical Association and the Southern Association for Women Historians. Judith was a prodigious writer with numerous publications. The one she was most proud of was her book "I Cannot Forget: Imprisoned in Korea, Accused at Home,” the story of Johnny More, Ex-POW accused of being a traitor. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Gentry Ph.D. and her son, James Andrew Sayle Gentry and her daughter-in-law, Erin Jagneaux Gentry of Boulder, Colorado.
