Lyda Mae B. Devillier

December 14, 1933 - April 17, 2021

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 1:30 PM in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott for Lyda Mae Devillier, 87, who passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SCOTT location on Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services. For family members and friends who are unable to attend on Thursday at 1:30 PM, the service will be live-streamed to a Memorial Facebook Group dedicated to Lyda Mae Devillier. To join the group, click the link below and then "join group". The video will appear on this group at service time 1:30 PM. You may also share memories, pictures and condolences to the family in this group. Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/854629578452984/?ref=share A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum in Scott. Reverend Mark Derise, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass. Survivors include her beloved husband of 73 years, Henry Lee Devillier; her children, Mary Ann Devillier Howe of Shreveport, Johnny Lee Devillier and wife, Sandra of Lafayette, and Michael Eugene Devillier of Sanford, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Michelle Yvette Pesnell, Mark Whitney Howe and wife, Melissa, Kristian Devillier, and Sarah Simon and husband, Dereck; her twelve great-grandchildren; her six great-great grandchildren; her sister, Betty Jean Barnes Treece and husband, Eugene; and her niece, Mary Greer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Cecilia Taylor Barnes and William Arthur Barnes; her sister, Martha Lue Caradine; her brother, Sam Henry Barnes; her niece, Martha Ann Peninger; her Godchild, Nichole "Nikki" Flowers; her dearest friends and neighbors of many years, Walton and Gloria Savoie. Walton and Gloria will remain eternal neighbors to their dear friends, the Devillier's at Sts. Peter and Paul Mausoleum. Lyda Mae was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She worked for the Diocese of Lafayette for many years. She taught Catechism and enjoyed spending time in church. Lyda Mae was an active parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott. She also served at St. Basil Catholic Church in Judice for many years. Lyda and her husband H.L. enjoyed traveling together all over the country. Her favorite thing to do was to cook for her family and host family gatherings. She treasured watching hummingbirds from her kitchen window. Pallbearers will be Michael Devillier, Johnny Devillier, Mark Howe, Kristian Devillier, Ethan Howe, and Lane Pesnell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nathan Devillier and Evan Howe. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Devillier family to Peggy (daughter of Walton and Gloria Savoie) and Theresa (sister of Gloria Savoie) for their many years of friendship, comfort, and support. Thank you for treating Lyda Mae like family as Walton and Gloria always have. The family would also like to thank the staff on the 3rd floor of Our Lady of Lourdes for their communication and care during Lyda's stay, and the staff of the Carpenter House for care in her final hours.
