A Catholic Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 2:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Mrs. Mascle Lantier Short Belaire, born January 17, 1937 (85 years old). A resident of Lafayette the former Mascle Lantier died on Friday, January 21, 2022 at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her family. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday, January 24, 2022 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed by Voorhies Short on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her beloved husband, Stephen J. Belaire; one daughter, Kim Flatt (Pat); four sons, Karlen Short (Sandy), Kraig Short (Loretta), Kristopher Short and Klint Short; four step-children; one sister, Carita Broussard; seven grandchildren, Brannon Short (Bianca), Chasity Castille (Jason), Drew Huval (Ella), Ory Huval (Barrie), Seth Short (Shelby), Hunter Short and Haven Short; 6 step-grandchildren, Coby Broussard, Irving Broussard, LaCori Broussard, LaSha Sams, LaShonna Broussard and Arthur Broussard; 9 great-grandchildren; and 22 great step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Francis P. Short; her father, Raoul Lantier; her mother, Elida Guidry Lantier; two brothers, Curtis and Stafford Lantier; two great-granddaughters; one step- grandson; and one step-great-grandchild. She was a faithful member of St. Genevieve Catholic Community and was always ready to pray the Rosary for sick members, family and friends. She was also a member of LRTA and supporter of St. Jude's since 1983. A graduate of Lafayette Senior High Class of 1955, Mascle was employed at First National Bank for 7 years, owned a business for 10 years, and worked at S.J. Montgomery as a teacher assistant in Special Education for 10 years. She and her husband loved to go dancing, to the casino and ride 4 wheelers. They also went on many vacations in their convertible. She loved cooking suppers in her back yard for family and friends and always lived life to the fullest. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be Brannon Short, Drew Huval, Ory Huval, Seth Short, Hunter Short, Gauge Short, Brandon Short, Brendon Short, Lincoln Huval, and Allen Short. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Belaire/Short family to her hospice caregivers, Sandy Navarre, Shawnarie Landry and Melissa Warren.
