Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Catholic Church for Paul Nolan Sahuc, 64, who passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at his residence in Lafayette. The family kindly request that visitors wear mask for the duration of the visitation and services of Mr. Paul Sahuc. Entombment will be in St. Peter Mausoleum in Carencro. Reverend Joshua Guillory, Pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Musical Selections will be “Panis Angelicus”, "Ave Maria”, "The Wayfaring Stranger”, “Be Not Afraid”, “Shepherd Me, O God”, "On Eagle's Wings”, “Pie Jesu”, “One Bread, One Body”, and "Song of Farewell", provided by Camille Sahuc Breaux, Rendell James, and Ben Blanchette accompanied by Kevin Martin on the organ. Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/The-Paul-Nolan-Sahuc-Memorial-106802545229796/ Survivors include his mother, Esther Marie Gouaux Sahuc; his siblings, Ruth Ann Mannich and her husband, Andy, Eve Marie Khademi and her husband, Changiz (Chuck), Philip John Sahuc and his husband, James Eskind, Peter Fernand Sahuc and his wife, Ednamae, James Joseph Sahuc, Dr. Martha Sahuc Nightingale; nieces Camille Sahuc Breaux, Hannah Marie Sahuc, Kayla Nicole Sahuc, Sarah Sahuc Aguilar Henriquez, and nephews Drue Belliveau Sahuc, Peter Fernand Sahuc, Jr., John Richard Sahuc, William Henry Parrott, IV, Sage Avery Nightingale. He was preceded in death by his father, Nolan John Sahuc; a brother-in-law, Dr. Daniel Nightingale. An American Baritone, Paul was well known for his dual career as a performer and teacher. At the time of his death, Paul was an Assistant Professor of Music at South Louisiana Community College where he developed numerous courses including Music Appreciation, History of Rock, and History of Jazz. Paul pioneered a course in Acadian Music and Culture. Besides tracing the roots and history of Acadian, Zydeco and, Swamp Pop music, he introduced visual art, iconic people and places, natural wonders in nature and the animal kingdom, festivals, agriculture, the diverse populations of Louisiana, and many more. He included guest speakers including musicians, leaders in government and civic organizations, potential employers from Acadian companies, representatives from festivals, conservationists, historians, and others, also incorporating attendance of events and festivals. He was a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Prior to SLCC, his academic, performing, and conducting experience included the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of California Santa Barbara, Pepperdine University, University of Redlands, Idyllwild Arts Academy, Idyllwild Arts Academy Theater, The Minnesota Opera, University of Minnesota Duluth, Alma College, Moore College of Music Arts - Bowling Green State University, Moorhead State University, Blue Lake Fine Arts Festival, Bay View Music Festival, Bay View Theater Arts, Bay View Music Festival Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Baton Rouge Opera. Operatic credits include Peter in Hansel and Gretel, Marcello in La Boehme, and Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro. Among his solo oratorio performances are Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Ein Deutsches Requiem of Johannes Brahms, and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. His discography includes Solitaire! with the Royal Swedish Opera, and Der Rosekavalier and I Capuletti e i Montecchi with the Minnesota Opera. His vocal students comprise some of America’s finest established and emerging talent, and are frequently engaged by The Metropolitan Opera, Vlaamse Opera (Netherlands), English National Opera, The Los Angeles Opera, and The Minnesota Opera, among others. As a conductor, he led performances of opera, music theatre, symphonic and choral works, and chamber music. Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Clarinet and Voice, with a Minor in English Literature from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. Urn Bearers will be Jay Kimbrough and Teddy Kahn. Honorary Pallbearers will be all the brothers of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille’s SOUTHSIDE location on Friday, January 14, 2022, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and will continue in St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed on Friday evening at 6:30 pm in Martin & Castille’s SOUTHSIDE location, followed by a Eulogy.
