Velma Joan Huval Menard

March 18, 1948 - February 26, 2022

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 2:00 pm in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Velma Joan Huval Menard,73, who peacefully passed away Saturday evening, February 26, 2022, at The Carpenter House-St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Pastor Kirk Alexander of Christ Church in Lafayette will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her children, daughter, Shannon Menard Bryan, son, Chad J. Menard and wife, Kerri; her granddaughter, Baili Elizabeth Moncrief and her husband, Zack; her grandson, Caleb Joseph Menard; three great grandchildren, Emma Moncrief, Easton Moncrief, and Elise Moncrief; one sister, Mary Elsie Menard Barnes; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Ronald Louis Menard; her parents, Austin Joseph Huval and the former Fannie Mae Waguespack; and two brothers, Cleveland Huval, and James Huval. Ms. Velma was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette where she was a graduate of Teurlings Catholic High School. Ms. Velma worked as a hair stylist for a span of 11 years at different salons including: Maison Blanc, The Model, Ronnie and Dorman’s, J.C. Penney Hair Salon in the Northgate Mall and Monique’s. She was part-owner of Ronnie’s Car Care Center with her late husband for 27 years where she worked for 3 of those years. She also worked for Whiz Kids Early Learning Center as an Early Learning Teacher for 15 years. She later worked at Stuller Inc. for 9 years as an order processor for diamond and gemstone operations and a trainer for that department. She loved cooking, flower gardening, caring for her grandchildren, Baili and Caleb, the New Orleans Saints, the New York Yankees, and lunch dates with her high school friends “The JUGS.” Velma and Ronnie loved going to the movies, dancing, and vacationing in Gulf Shores, AL. “Look at Us” by Vince Gil was their favorite song. She lived long enough to be blessed with her three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Zack Moncrief, Keith Menard, Steven Woods, Bryan Menard, Brett Richard, and Ray Leach. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chad Menard, Caleb Menard, Kelly Huval, and Seth Thibodeaux. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 9:00 am until time of services. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Menard family to the nurses of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, and St. Joseph Hospice, the Carpenter House.
