Mary "Margie" Melancon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022, at a 12:00 pm noon Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow for Mary "Margie" Melancon, 76, who passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on WEDNESDAY, June 29, 2022, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on FRIDAY, July 1, 2022, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow, from 9:30 am until time of services on Friday. A Rosary and Vigil Service will be prayed on Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm in Martin & Castille Funeral Home, led by Deacon Randy Hyde of Lafayette. Very Rev. Thankachan (John) Nambusseril, VF, Pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow, will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will be in Cheramie Cemetery of Galliano, LA. Survivors include her devoted husband of 38 years, Wayne B. Melancon; eight children, Tracy “Bubba” Sellers, Stacy Sellers Bouy and her husband, Christopher, Jennifer Sellers–Rein and her wife, Jodi, Karen Sellers, Kevin Sellers, Wayne B. Melancon, Jr., Nikia Melancon, and Teela Wade; her fifteen grandchildren, Jake, Jordan, Colby, Ashley, Dylan, Hannah, Cheyenne, Raylynn, Camryn, Madison, Alyson, Austin, Kaemon, Lyric, and Isabella; thirteen great-grandchildren; five siblings, Jim Gaspard, Velma Dubois, Laura Goodwin, Danny Gaspard, and Brenda Primeaux; and a host of nieces, nephews, and god-children. She was preceded in death by one son, Sean Paul Melancon; her parents, Paul and Ednes Gaspard; six siblings, Terry, Hilda, Nell, Alvin, Millie, and Paulette; along with her former husband Joseph B. Sellers. Margie was one of 12 children born and raised in Maurice, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Maurice High School, Class of 1964, and her favorite hobbies were reading, cooking, traveling and best of all, doting on her family. She met and married the love of her life Wayne and spent the last 38 years living in Leeville, Louisiana (on Bayou Lafourche). She loved where she lived – she’d introduce herself as “Margie Melancon from Leeville” - but she was better known as “Momma Margie” to too many souls to count! She loved to work on the shrimp barge with Wayne, was involved with the Leeville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, was a poll-worker at every election she could, loved Facebook and keeping up with all of her friends and hosted the best Christmas parties the great big town of Leeville has ever seen. There are many things her family and friends will miss – her smile, her hugs, her cooking, her joyous and beautiful laugh – but we will find comfort in knowing her soul is free to reunite with the circle of friends and family that has passed before her and she is no longer in pain here on earth. She is forever in our hearts. Pallbearers will be Tracy “Bubba” Sellers, Kevin Sellers, Jake Leger, Jordan Leger, Wayne Melancon, Jr., and Dylan Melancon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Bouy, Karen Sellers, and Shalon Bourque. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Melancon family to Amelia Manor Nursing Home, the team at Lafayette General Hospital, and the caring souls at Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Downtown Lafayette, and Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland, along with Father John at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow.
