Mazel Girouard Kesel

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, at a 3:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery Chapel in Lafayettte, for Mazel Girouard Kesel, 100, who passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Camelot of Broussard Assisted Living surrounded by her family. Entombment will be in St. John Mausoleum. Reverend Andrew Schumacher, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau, will conduct the funeral services. Musical selections will be provided by Jodi Bollich. Survivors include two children, one son, James Kesel and his wife, Julie, and one daughter, Mary Moore; four grandchildren, Christopher Kesel, Erica Kesel LeBlanc and her husband, Sean, Michelle Kesel and Rachel Kesel; one step grandson, Jamie Guidry and his husband, Steve O’Prea; two great grandchildren, Logan LeBlanc, and Bennett LeBlanc; two sisters-in-law, Louisette Girouard, and Lila Girouard; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Herman J. Kesel; her parents, Honore A. Girouard and the former Camilla Ozenne; her siblings, Lloyd Girouard and his wife, Annie, Avery “A.J.” Girouard, Lillian Revett and her husband, Gene, and Warren Girouard; and three nephews, Ronnie Revett, Paul Revett, and Craig Girouard. Ms. Mazel was a native of Broussard and was a resident of Lafayette and Broussard for most of her life, attending school in St. Martinville. She and her husband Herman were parishioners of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette where she was at one time an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, as well as an employee of the Cathedral’s giftshop. Mazel was an incredible mother, sister, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Ms. Mazel enjoyed gardening, she loved her flowers, sewing, playing bridge with her numerous bridge club friends, spending time at their condo on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, AR, and most of all spending time with her family. She was an exceptional cook, everything she cooked was a masterpiece, particularly Cajun specialties, gumbo, stew, and chicken spaghetti to name a few. A special ministry she partook in was bringing food to the less fortunate having volunteered often at St. Joseph’s Diner. Pallbearers will be Chris Kesel, Mitch Moore, Glenn Girouard, Tony Girouard, Sean LeBlanc, and Jonathan Young. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 11:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed on Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
